Matthew A. Gates practices family law and matrimonial, or divorce, law. He is a New York-native, having grown up in Brooklyn. Mr. Gates worked as a court officer in Bronx Family Court for six years, which was where he realized his passion for family law. While Matthew was a court officer, he received the Courtroom Advocate Project Honor from Sanctuary for Families for his commitment to the safety of domestic violence victims. He left the court in 2010 to pursue a law degree and worked as a paralegal during law school at Eskin & Eskin where he currently practices law.

While working as a court officer, he gained a first-hand understanding of how the court system operates, which is an important aspect of our justice system that some attorneys struggle to grasp. As a paralegal, Mr. Gates learned about the paperwork and filing requirements for family law cases. As a result of working as a paralegal while in law school, he feels very comfortable interacting with clients dealing with a wide variety of legal situations. Mr. Gates is an avid sports fan and loves hockey and football and is a proud, first-generation lawyer.
